A Letter to Our Community – 10/24/24
It has been almost a month since Helene passed through WNC. We truly hope that wherever you are in the recovery process that you are finding the resources, support and healing we ALL so desperately need.
We’ve chosen to move forward with the event, scheduled for Saturday, November 16th at 10am at NBHS. Our greatest intention in moving forward with the Bolt is to provide a much needed community gathering in the face of so much that has already been lost, even as we reframe and revise event logistics, fundraising goals and approach.
Here are those changes as they stand currently:
Event Logistics – We understand that there are multiple fallen trees along the course, and we are in the process of assessing the clean-up needed to proceed with the Bolt course as it had been. However, if needed, we do have an alternate course so be patient with us as that may look a little different this year.
Volunteer Signups – are currently underway so if you aren’t into running or walking, but still want to participate, you can sign up to help us here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094CADAF2EA0FCC07-51170250-blackhawk#/
Fundraising Goals and Approach – We are working with the school to assess the needs of our families as well as the best way that the NBHS PTSO can plug in to meet those needs. What we do know now is that those needs are present, they are great and we want to pivot to provide that support where we can. All funds raised have always 100% benefitted the students, staff and school at North Buncombe High School, and this year, there will be a special designation to support our families affected by Tropical Storm Helene.
- Sponsorships – We recognize that our families and local businesses are experiencing vastly different levels of emotional, physical and financial strain. As such, we’ve decided to approach our sponsorships and registrations in a slightly different way…
Prior to the storm, we were in conversations with our past and new community partners who had tentatively committed. At this point, we feel it is important to honor those pledges to commit regardless of their donation. If sponsors are in a position to pledge those donations, we will gratefully receive any amount; however, we understand that it might not be possible at this moment and trust that our supporters will support us when and if they can, as they always have. - Registration Fees – We have lowered the fee to the early bird pricing rate for the entirety of the registration period. We do not want cost to be a barrier for anyone who wishes to participate and will have scholarship funds available.
In addition, we have opened up the possibility for individual fundraisers so that people can share a link with their friends and family to raise donations for those scholarship funds. Any remaining funds raised will benefit the students, staff and school at North Buncombe High School, with a special designation to support our families affected by Tropical Storm Helene. If you raise $100, you will get a FREE race registration!
If you wish to create an individual fundraiser, you can do so here.
Or simply share a donation link with friends and family here.
(**The difference between the two is that the individual fundraiser offers tools for ongoing efforts to raise funds until the race, while the donation link is a quick and easy one-time deal.)
We hope that this will provide an opportunity to meet folks wherever they are, while we also reach outside of our community for additional support and that together we will rise. It has always been and always will be our community supporters that determine our resilience and recovery, and we are proud to BE the North Buncombe community.
More race information including parking information will be coming closer to the race. Stay tuned.
In gratitude and service,
NBHS PTSO
The 2nd annual Blackhawk Bolt was a smashing success!
Thank you to everyone who walked/ran, volunteered, sponsored, donated, served us in any capacity or just came to cheer us on!
Because of you, we raised over $15,000 for NBHS!
